How it goes

  1. Find the water. We walk it with you, ideally after a good rain, and work out where the water's coming from.
  2. Dig and lay. Trenches dug, drain rock and pipe in, grades set so it actually flows.
  3. Close it up. Backfilled and graded so the yard looks like a yard again.

Good to know

Why Island yards stay wet

Drillers' most common entry near the surface, from Yellow Point to Parksville, is glacial till or “overburden”, and clay turns up in the top 3 m in about 25% of logs around Parksville and 23% around Nanoose Bay. Till and clay both drain slowly, so water sits on top all winter.

Questions people ask

Why does my yard flood every winter?

Usually it's slow-draining ground plus grading that sends water the wrong way. Fixing the grade is often half the job.

Do I need a French drain, or just regrading?

It depends on where the water comes from. We'll walk it with you and tell you straight.
